A couple of years ago, I was stopped at an intersection in El Paso, TX while we waited for a train to pass. The train was pulled by a Ferromex locomotive. I thought then that I wished I had my camera with me to catch a photo. Since that time, I have seen several Ferromex trains, but was unable to take a photo.
Today, I was able to take that picture! I was extremely excited as I passed the Rincon, NM overpass to see a pair of Ferromex Locomotives stopped in the rail yard. The two locomotives were linked together and I safely was able to approach close enough to take several photos. I feared getting in trouble for a moment as I looked over to see a worker on the station porch keeping a close eye on me—but I appreciated him allowing me to take the pictures that I have been looking forward to taking for so long.
The Ferromex line is a private Mexican Rail Company. The name comes from combining two words: Ferrocarril Mexicano or “Mexican Railway” and the company represents the largest railway in Mexico. The two locomotives, numbered 4068 and 4076, are a part of the EMD SD70Ace series of locomotives, which is a fairly new locomotive—being introduced in 2005.
The opportunity for me to be able to take these much desired photos was incredibly exciting. The chills ran over my arms when I drove down the exit ramp to see if I would have the chance to actually accomplish my goal to photograph the Ferromex. I’m so glad it all worked out in my favor!
