Life is moving fast, so fast that it is unbelievable that I have been in country for a week. This isn’t really a big deal in the overall scope of things, but it is a milestone nonetheless. I am glad that I haven’t miss too many blog posts due to the race to get settled and lack of internet access.
I am writing today from the PX Food Court here at Camp Red Cloud that, thankfully, is right across the street from my BOQ building. They have internet inside, so I may use this as my primary method for the next several days.
The time has been moving fast because my schedule has been incredibly busy on top of trying to get settled. Yesterday, I picked up my room keys and did a PX run to purchase sheets, a pillow, and a shower curtain. I am always amazed at how much I take for granted when I suddenly find myself without the basics. I had to make a couple of trips yesterday and will make several more trips as I find little things that I forgot to add to my list. These instances of trying to build the basics make me thankful that I have the means to simply walk to the store and pick them up. It also makes me mindful of those who do not have this luxury.
During my travels today, as a part of several meetings, I drove past the 38th Parallel. This portion of the South Korea is a couple of miles South of the DMZ which briefly winds itself a little North of the parallel itself. This moment was another reminder of what we are doing here in South Korea and those who have died in the Korean War—a war that still has not ended.
