As I sit waiting format number to be called, I thought I would take a moment to tell you what I have been doing over the last couple of days. Without Internet access, it has been a challenge to post other than sending an email, like this one, to Monica to post.
So what have I been doing?
The first priority of the last several days has been acclimation. The Army has me and other new arrivals at a “Warrior Readiness Company”. The brief stop gives every Soldier in the 2ID a moment to become aware of what is happening in the foreign country and allow my body to acclimate to the new environment.
During this acclimation, the unit has planned briefings about the country, about the rules in the country, and the opportunities here in South Korea. I spent much of two days listening these briefings and thankfully they were very interesting and informative. We still have more briefings about the Second Infantry Division tomorrow.
This afternoon, I waited in the heat to be one of the first in line to receive my gear. Every move requires a visit to the “Central Issue Facility” where specific combat gear for that unit is issued. When I leave, I will be returning most of it. I was happy to receive a ruck sack and IBA, because I turned those in at Fort Bliss. Having that gear means that I’m back into the operational world where they actually use them.
It has been a busy several days. However, I look forward to getting back on a regular blogging schedule once I get into my new housing.
