This first day of year also signaled my half way mark of my time in Korea. It was a fun week of activity and it is good to share my snapshots of the week with you—as I do every Friday.
The week began with a holiday, since New Year’s Day was on Sunday. I spent the morning cleaning my room and then the afternoon was focused on some serious gameplay.
Tuesday, turned into a “Monday” with all of the craziness that Monday’s have. I was happy to end my day with a package of Chips Ahoy! Cookies and milk!
Wednesday after work was spent at a “Hail and Farewell” dinner where we welcomed several new Soldiers to our team and said farewell to a few. The CG’s Mess is the location for the event and typically serves as a Dining Facility for Breakfast and Lunch. I always enjoy my visits.
Before my Thursday meeting, I showed up early enough to see that the previous meeting left the video teleconference (VTC) backdrop down. I wanted to get a photo of it, because it is not often that people outside o fthose meetings see this backdrop. Because of our location in Korea, it is cheaper many times to conduct a meeting over VTC rather than physically travel. The backdrop shields the viewer from the distractions behind the speaker, but also allow the viewer to see which unit is speaking at the time. I never knew how useful those backdrops were until I was involved in many different VTCs in my last unit. This backdrop is useful because the room can be opened up for different types of meetings.
Friday, as I walked out of my office, I reflected on the fact that it was 6JAN17—which is exactly 180 days until my “date of expected return from overseas” or “DEROS date”. This means that I am exactly halfway home.
