I am not terribly old—not by most of today’s standards. However, the Army is a young man’s game. The Soldiers enter the Army at 18-20. Even the officers enter active duty at 22-24. I am 46 almost 47. In this environment, I am older than most. I can out run many of them on longer runs, even as they fly past me on the short runs.
The other day, I was asking one of the young Soldiers when he went to bed. He went to bed when normally at midnight and still made it to PT in the morning. I go to bed at 9pm, if I am doing well. I do not have the energy to stay up and have work the next day. I have outgrown that. My body is tired.
The Bible says;
“My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” Psalms 73:26 (NLT)
I will continue to grow old and get weak—as all of us do. But, “God remains the strength of my heart.” Too many people still live in the old life, where they try to get ahead on their own merit. Before land, however, their age begins to affect their strength. But I allow God to restore may heart—for his glory.
No matter what comes my way, I can trust in Christ to be my strength.
