Over the last couple of weeks, I watched the World Baseball Classic. I have heard of it before, but never paid too much attention to it. This year, however, has changed my mind. The World Baseball Classic is definitely worth paying attention too.
“The World Baseball Classic is the premier international baseball tournament, sanctioned by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), and operated as a joint venture between Major League Baseball and its Players Association. The Tournament features the best players in the world competing for their home countries and territories.”
As I watched these games, I was impressed by the energy of the fans. What I have not taken seriously is taken very seriously by the fans. It is great to see the international stage offered to these players and teams. The nationalism of these games have truly made them exciting.
Another aspect that I enjoy watching is the bracket play. This tournament structure of advancement through a bracket is not the traditional five to seven game series. But the teams play different teams along the way. This also keeps these games interesting and the energy high.
The World Baseball Classic also shows the viewer the future of baseball. Baseball is more international than Americans understand. Watching the World Baseball Classic allows the baseball fan to see different players—some from Major League Baseball, some from the minors, and some professional players for the home countries. This is a stage where many hope to make a name for themselves. It is good to watch players eagerly trying to make their dreams of becoming a Major Leaguer come true.
Next year, this baseball fan will definitely take advantage of watching early Spring Baseball through watching the World Baseball Classic.
