Green Lantern #29 begins a Seven Part series revisiting the origin of Green Lantern.
But, what is so “Secret?”
Most of the storyline sticks to the story that we expect from Green Lantern. This, I am not at all upset by. To digress a little—the biggest problem with Wonder Woman is the origin stories that have been bounced around for years. The best thing they could do is to throw all of the Greek Mythology stuff out and go to straight “Amazonian Princess hangs out with Steve and saves the world.” But—that’s just me. Point is, I like the origin stories to be kept simple. Geoff Johns seems to stick with original story here.
But, it is nice to expand on the story and interpret it a little more. This has been done effectively with Batman recently—taking little details and building on them to build a bigger story.
Secret Origins: Part One gets the arc of to a good start—little reflection back to the building story (as of May 2008). It is a good foundation for the rest of the arc—somewhat predictable…but this is good to bring newer readers into the story. And, the story has to start somewhere—might as well start at the beginning.
I am looking forward to the progression of the arc in future issues and reviews.
