I had a great opportunity to visit this year’s VA Comicon at the Ramada Plaza West in Richmond, Virginia. It is a two-day show combined with an Anime show on the side. I thought it was a very good show for it’s size.
I was impressed with the schedule of events. The organizers set up some very good panel discussions with various topics to interest the budding artist as well as the collector.
I especially enjoyed the session with Chuck Rozanski, owner of Mile High Comics—the largest comic shop in the world. Being in the industry for many years, Chuck brought forward a great discussion of comic book collections and history of the industry. This experience is one that I will remember for a long time.
Most of my time—and money—was spent in the Comic Show itself. The ballroom was covered wall to wall with different dealers selling and some buying comic books of all kinds. The comic show also featured a group of artists doing commissioned art work and selling prints. I enjoyed seeing these artists and meeting them.
At the show, I bought a series of Fantastic Four books from the 80s as well as a group of Action Comics, also from the 80s. I look forward to adding them to my collection in the future and being able to share some of my reviews with you in the future.
I had a wonderful time at the show and would definitely recommend a visit to next years VA Comicon.
