As you can imagine, I live a fairly busy life—with four children, a wonderful wife, a sometimes demanding job, and an active hobby schedule. And as I can imagine, so are you. We are all busy.
Why do we say we are busy?
Is it really to complain? Really? Who do we think we are? I’m no busier than you. You have the same 24 hours that I have. To complain about being busy is like complaining about the weather. It may be bad, but everyone’s in the same boat.
Is it to make ourselves look good? We think mentioning how busy we are makes us look like we are working harder than the next guy. We may be, but announcing it doesn’t make us look any better. In fact, it only highlights the fact that we would rather be lazy. In addition, it prove to the world that we haven’t a clue on how to manage our time or our tasks. So if we want to look good, we should keep our mouths shut and just perform well. Maybe, if we wasted less time talking about how much we were working, we might actually get more done.
Is it because we forget the alternative? The alternative to being busy is doing nothing. At first, this sounds appealing. But doing nothing doesn’t pay the bills. And doing nothing gets even more boring really fast.
So, how busy are you? Would your life be different if you said “I thankful”.
