In 2008, I was in an area near Baghdad, Iraq. My Battalion operated from a Forward Operating Base and interacted with the local Iraqi’s in many way to improve their lives.
To do this, the Battalion used interpreters to communicate with the local people. There was one interpreter who rode on my missions frequently and was present for many of the prayers I gave for the Patrols leaving each day.
During the Summer, she received a promotion moving her to a higher profile position. When she left, she stopped by my office and gave me this small thank you gift—thanking me for praying for the trips that she and her friends had traveled.
The small paper weight is a precious memento of my time and ministry there. It reminds me to keep the Iraqi people in my prayers. The people of Iraq have endured much through many years—I pray that they will find peace—I pray that they will have strength through the coming days as they find that peace—And I pray that they will all hear the message of Christ who loves them.
