While walking through the chow line today, I overheard the noise from the TVs in the corners of the DFAC. I remembered standing in a similar line about three years ago, overhearing the news about the clean-up efforts in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I thought back to those days.
Hurricane Katrina was moving toward New Orleans and came ashore while I was packing and traveling to South Carolina from Fort Campbell. I went to visit my family before I went downrange and I needed to take some of my stuff down there for storage. Monica then traveled to Fort Campbell with me to see me get on the plane. During the trip to South Carolina and back, listen to much of the first parts of the storm on XM sattelite radio tuned to the FOX News Network.
Several days later, I got on the plane to go downrange. In the DFAC the news was still playing; the clean-up, the looting, and the finger pointing.Â
Three years later, I think back to that time. Going through the DFAC, I listen to the news.
