While I am still learning my way around here, I wanted to go into town over the weekend. The problem was that I had no idea where to go or how to get there. I will learn soon enough, but I simply wanted to go out on a little adventure. I scrolled on my iPhone for different restaurants in the area and saw that McDonald’s was only a mile away.
So, on Sunday afternoon, I took a walk outside the gate. The walk was an adventure all itself as I passed small Korea shops as I walked beside a busy highway. The highway is about six lanes wide and all of the cars seemed to be traveling fast. Luckily, I only had to cross about two cross walks which required me to wait patiently for the light to change. Soon, I finally arrived at McDonald’s.
Once I was in McDonald’s, I please to see that it was not much different from the McDonald’s in the States. The tables and the chairs were all very similar along with the booths. There were some differences, however. There was no self-serve drink area and the cup for dinning in were made of heavy plastic and there was a special place to drop the cups next to the trays after you are done. These minor changes, along with the fact that everything was understandably written in Korean, were about the only changes I noticed.
Luckily, the Number One selection was the same as in the U.S., so I happily order a Big Mac Meal. I was very pleased that the fires and the burger tasted just like the ones that I am used to. I look forward to making this an occasional reminder of home.
