When I was told that I was going to be assigned to South Korea, I began to think about packing. I first thought of different notebooks and gadgets. It is different than nearly seven years ago when I went to Iraq, so much is available through Amazon these days and we’ll be able to have them shipped to me. But as I prepare for this journey, besides the tea kettle, the television, and the movies I may bring—what spiritual stuff should I bring?
I will bring my journal and my Bible. I look forward to having some time to read some devotional books during my stay. Several other trips, I have read Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost for His Highest”, but I think this time I want to read “The Complete Works of E.M. Bounds on Prayer.” I’ve been want to get to that one and I hope to have time to focus my attention because what I have read has been wonderful but deep reading. I have several other books on my reading list as well that I am looking forward to taking with me.
Packing “Spiritual Gear” is not that difficult. There isn’t much to it physically. However, there is much to consider from the heart—there is attitude and intention. These also are not on a packing list, but they are truly mission essential.
