Monica sent me this month’s issue of Runner’s World which motivated me to run today.
Typically, I don’t run on Sunday. I usually use it as a rest day and start strong on Monday. However, I didn’t run Friday, so I had two days of rest and I was awake at 0400 anyway. So, why not?
As I ran around the FOB on my route, I looked off the road to see paw prints in the moon dust. Now, let me back up a second.Â
Moon dust is the fine dust that is so prevalent out here. It is incredibly fine and there is enough of it to be thick and deep. I have had to run in it before, for whatever reason–car driving on the road, ran out of road and kept running, or transition between roads–and when your feet hit the ground a cloud of this dust engulfs your shoe.Â
Moon dust is created, by evil vehicles that won’t stay on the road. The dirt around the FOB is hard packed after the yearly rains. It stays packed until a vehicle rolls over it. Then, over time, the dirt begins to break down and crumbles into moon dust. Now, three months after the last rain, the dirt is turnning to dust.
So, I ran on the road and saw paw prints. I didn’t just see one set. I saw at least two separate sets on prints. Am I being watched by some stray dog when I run? I have seen one dog before on the FOB–we both ran away. This time there are more prints. And fresh.
I can’t help but to wonder how much it would hurt to get chewed up.
