Popcorn is a favorite snack around our house. Sometimes, we will use the Air Popper when we want quick popcorn without adding too many Weight Watcher Points. But, when we really want hot perfect popcorn, we pull out our Stir Crazy Popper. I grew up having popcorn from this popcorn popper. When Monica and I got married, this was one of our first purchases—and we recently bought our second after wearing out the first one. This popcorn popper makes amazing popcorn every time. I could stop the post right now, because this is truly the doorway to perfect popcorn. But, what do I do next?
First, I put in 2 or 3 tables spoons of vegetable or corn oil. I prefer corn oil—because…its corn, what goes but with popcorn than corn. However, I don’t remember if there is that big of a difference between the two in the end. I also prefer three table spoons of oil to have more oil to grab the salt, but again the difference is preference—I haven’t noticed that much between those two choices either.
Second, I place one half cup of popcorn inside the bowl. I use Orville Redenbacher Gourmet Popcorn for best results—there is a difference here. I have tried store brands or even bagged brands and the end result is just not the same. The kernels are smaller and/or there are too many kernels left at the bottom of the bowl. Orville Redenbacher popcorn is, by far, the best.
Third, I plug in the popper and the Stir Crazy does its thing. I make sure I pull off the cap on top of the dome to provide ventilation. The spinner goes round and round so each kernel is heated. Soon, the popper’s dome becomes filled with white popped popcorn and it is time to unplug the popper. It is important to unplug it as the popping slows, so there is no danger of the bottom popcorn burning on the burner.
Finally, I flip the popper over, replacing the cap. This also becomes a great serving bowl! Then I add salt. I use kosher salt, for my popcorn to enhance the flavor. I saw recently a tip about running the kosher salt through a food processor to break it down a little and I may try that one day soon. If I desire butter, I will stick two table spoons of real butter in the microwave and sprinkle it over the top of the popcorn.
I love popcorn and this has been the best way I have learned to fix it—and I run through the entire, yet simple, routine often. I hope this helps you on your next binge with Netflix!
