Nearly every night, it is my ritual to catch up on the world by reading through over 50 different blogs—most of the time only about 20 have information posted, but only about half of those have information that I’m interested in. Just a quick check on those blogs for tonight shows that I will need to go through 110 articles tonight before I go to bed. This is all done through a web app, kindle app, and iPhone app called Feedly.
Feedly.com is essentially an RSS reader. Feedly receives a digital notification when an article is published on one of the blogs I follow, then it sends that article to my “Feedly Reader”. These blogs are sorted and organized by topic. It is as simple as reading an email. Simpler actually, because the format is such that it is optimized for reading articles.
I primarily read my feedly on the kindle app, and recommend that you do the same. A couple of years ago, before tablets, there was no other choice but to read it on the desktop—but that obviously, has changed. I don’t recommend reading it on your smart phone. It may be personal preference, but I don’t want my blogs to have my attention but once a day—when I am ready to read it. If you are that interested in what a blog has to say the minute it is published, subscribe to their email. Then, you will only get the information that you desire at that moment not all of the other background stuff that blogs offer.
I recommend feedly because it is easy to use. It is quick to set up and it does the job. There was a time before feedly that googlereader was the RSS reader of choice, but google closed that down several years ago. Feedly is now the way to go for blog reading on a large scale.
