One of my happy places each week is driving in my truck listening to The Popcast. During my morning commute, I mostly listen to audiobooks as I travel. Sometimes, I listen to podcasts through my iPhone as I find an interesting show to follow. Recently, my wife mentioned The Popcast and listening to them has become a priority of my week.
The Popcast is a cultural commentary that is immensely entertaining. At first, I listen to the show for the entertainment but many times I step out of the car armed with some new cultural knowledge and sometimes with a thought provoking idea that I can take away. The show is enjoyable because, for me, it is safe and clean. Much of the humor across the board is not clean—and not enjoyable but offensive. For the most part, this Podcast is clean. Because the show deals with Pop culture there is the occasional mature context that I may not want my children to hear; so my advice is not to necessarily listen around children, but it is safe enough that if you child does walk in you won’t run scrambling because of foul and embarrassing language. The show is simply an enjoyable walk through the landscape of popular culture.
Each week, the show typically begins by addressing a particular topic, followed by small segments of news, and ending with the hosts “Red Lights” and “Green Lights”—the endorsement or warning from each host. They have added a biweekly bonus episode recently, spending more time on a particular topic of interest. I sincerely enjoy the show and recommend it to anyone who is interested in pop culture or to someone who may want to simply keep up. I also recommend it to those of us who keep up with pop culture and just want to laugh. The show is absolutely great fun!
