Last week, Seth Godin wrote on his blog;
“The thing that makes it popular might be precisely the thing that keeps it from working.”
I saw this and immediately thought of the dangerous behavior churches are conducting to get people through their doors. Churches call it “contemporary worship” and it is an effort to bring in the lost through “upbeat music, casual atmosphere, and donuts and coffee”.
Maybe the casual—let’s not take worship seriously attitude-is just what is harming the churches efforts to reach the lost?

Thank you for your kind comments–it is good to see your perspective on this. Thank you for dropping by!

I think you’re onto something. The casual approach to faith is why so few Christians in the West seem to center their lives around the priorities of the Lord’s commandments. “Religious services” have become “worship services” wherein the things being worshiped are self and stuff (materialism). Doctrine is being cast aside for comfort–as in, “Let’s bring in more couches” and “Let’s see how much we can excite people with really loud music” instead of “Let’s learn more about the doctrines of grace.” An immature and undisciplined flock will not be able to minister to the world. The church must focus on spiritual transformation instead of casual coffeehouse chatter.
