Tonight, there was a wide spread tornado breakout. At one time, there was a tornado in Birmingham, AL, in Knoxville, TN, and locally here in the Richmond, VA area.
It is always amazing to watch all of the data that comes from the many different sources. It gets crazy when I have them all running at once. It can be done, but it is busy. If the storms become directed toward my area, then I focus only on that storm. Tonight, I was watching several different storms at a time.
During a storm, I monitor these different sources:
accuweather.com Premium MapSpace Radar
accuweather.com Premium Radar Plus
National Weather Service Forecast Office in Wakefield,VA
Amateur Radio SkyWarn Net—in which I am a participating member and monitor over amateur radio frequency 2 Meter Repeater on 146.88
twitter.com through tweetdeck monitoring #tornado
Local Weather through NBC12
tornadovideos.net Live Chase Videos
Tonight I monitored these in addition to my normal resources:
radioreference.com Live Feeds—here you can find local public safety feeds, which are good sources for damage reports and some storm spotting reports.
Local Live Television from Birmingham, AL at ABC3340.com—Live broadcast from local TV affiliates are always a plus when the storms are states away. At these sites you will receive more from what is happening on the ground and specifics on the storms from people who know the area first hand.
