I discovered today on the cyberjournalist.net RSS feed that NPR (National Public Radio) has redesigned their site.
And what a wonderful redesign it is. I was absolutely amazed. I wish I had access to this about 18 months ago when I began last year’s deployment to Iraq.
On their new design—NPR provides access to all of their wonderful programming…much of it live or same day broadcasts of what is playing on public radio in the United States. What a great resource for me—living overseas, or for anyone who wants to listen to “All Things Considered” or “Talk of the Nation” during a more convenient time they can turn to NPR.org and find it. I was impressed by the number of live concerts they have planned and the amount of archived events available on the site. I look forward to seeing more as this site develops.
As I was exploring this new design, I realized that there were a couple of show that were unavailable. These shows are favorites of mine. I thought to myself as to the reasons why they were omitted and the logical reason was the lack of NPR ownership of the programs. So, I began to look specifically for these shows online.
PRI’s “The World” was available on The World.org website. The World is an excellent overview of International Headlines, but the show brings in several human interest stories and prospective from other places around the globe.
Performance Today from American Public Media is another Public Radio program that I didn’t see listed. It is a broadcast of live concerts that I have found enjoyable.
Both of these programs have archives and same day playback of their programming for listening on your computer at their respective sites.
It is exciting to see all of these public broadcasting choices available on the internet—I am excited that I will be able to access them and enjoy them online in the future.
