I just finished writing my letter to Monica for today. Most days, I’m able to write her a little note–usually as part of my prayer time in the morning.Â
I think it is important to maintain the habit of letter writing when I am gone for this long of a period. I think it adds something to our relationship–if anything, I am reminded of my responsibility and that I need to make an effort to communicate. But, I think it is more than that. I do try to call most days as well and I email rather frequently during the day. But the letter allows me to understand the distance between us and communicate something heartfelt to her.Â
The experts say that letters are also an important way to stay connected because letters offer something tangible for the person on the receiving end. I don’t know if that’s true, but I know it helps me to send something tangible to her on a daily basis.
By the way, letters have also stood the test of time–email, web cams, and even phones have not.
