Early this morning, Monica and the girls went to their four year old check-up–leaving me and Will at home.
Our house is in a constant flow of activity. Right now, there is the sound of EA laughing and talking to her brother, MC and Will laughing along. Monica is in the kitchen fixing dinner. We are playing a Worship DVD on the TV, in an ineffective attempt to calm the house down.
This morning was different.
When the girls left, alone with Will playing Little People on the floor…the room became very quiet.
I don’t think I have experienced quietness like that in a long time. Around Iraq, there is always a noise of something. It could be a generator, it could be the wind, or simply people talking nearby.
Before long the girls bounced back in–returning the wonderful chaos of the family living room.
Before long, I was thinking how wonderful it was to have them with me–to hear them laugh and play.
On one hand, was the noise of laughter and play.
On the other hand, was the quietness.
This morning, I was able to appreciate both.

Over from High Calling Blogs, too…
Thanks for the reminder to appreciate the sound of my children’s laughter, and also the silence. And Happy belated birthday to your little girls!
