“Restore us, O LORD God of hosts!
Let your face shine, that we may be saved!” (Psalm 80:19 ESV)
During my devotional time this morning, I read this verse. My mind immediately went to the Presidential Election that is taking place and I reflected on the fact that no matter who we elect; we could elect Billy Graham and it would not matter, unless we repent of our sins as a nation, we will not be restored in God’s sight.
We need salvation. Look around. Look at our country. We are sliding farther and farther away. Our nation needs to be saved.
When the Psalmist asks for God to Restore his people, he recognizes that it is only by letting his face shine that God can save these people. So the question is; “Would God shine his face on our people now?” In the past, I believe he would. We saw two maybe three Great Awakenings in our history where many repented of their sin and turned to Christ. That is what we need now. Is it possible to reverse the sin that is in our country? I believe it is, but only through true repentance and returning to Christ.
That return to Christ can begin with you. Have you repented of your sin? Repenting is turning from your sin and turning towards Christ with your life. Repenting is turning everything over to the Lordship and Control to Christ. It is only through this kind of turning will we be able to change the direction of our nation. It is also the only way of turning the direction of your life.
This is a great opportunity for you to turn to Christ. Because of our sin, each of us deserve death and hell. But Christ loved us so much that he died on a cross to pay that penalty for us. You can have eternal life if you repent of your sin—turning from the sin and turning to Christ. And you can do that today.
