I found this video of Roger miller that I’ve never seen before. He was absolutely a brilliant artist.
I’m a long time Roger Miller fan—I have been since I was a kid. I grew up listening to and loving “King of the Road”, “England Swings”, and “Do-Waka-Do”.
So tonight—I was experiencing some writers block and I Google “blog post topics” and find a website that lists 100 blog post topics. I browse the topics and see that the author asked the question;
“Do you believe in reincarnation?”
The ONLY thing that pops in my head was the Roger Miller song—”Reincarnation”.
The first verse goes like this:
If l was a bird and you was a fish, what would we do?
l guess we’d wish for
Reincarnation, Reincarnation
Wouldn’t it be a sensation to come back too like reincarnation?
So I started searching and found other favorites on YouTube.
It was funny to see so much that he wrote that made it into my life—some that I didn’t know it was from him. For instance, I used to listen to a “New Christy Minstrels” song that was a spoof on Johnny Cash’s “I walk the Line”. It seems as if YouTube sent me the truth that Roger miller actually wrote those lyrics that read:
I keep my pants up with a piece of twine.
I keep my eyes wide open all the time.
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds.
Please say your mine—and pull the twine.
From the video it appears that Roger Miller was improvising the entire song that was then rerecorded by the “New Christy Minstrels”. This is simply another example of the brilliance of the man—I heard once that people would just follow him around to get just a piece an idea that would then be turned into a song. He was absolutely amazing.
