I watched a soccer game over the internet today–where I saw Roman Pavlyuchenko’s score that won the 1-0 Tottenham game against Blackburn. And yes, soccer would be more popular if Americans could pronounce the names. To be honest, I didn’t watch the whole game because I was actually trying to finish my work early–by while you are waiting for the other computer to load a page, what else do you do!
Soccer gets absolutely no respect in American…none.
One of my biggest frustrations is to go into the PX and never see a single Soccer Magazine. Now, you may think this is unfair to the PX to say this. I understand that soccer isn’t the mainline sport that other sports are. I got that. But when I see Sailing Magazine and 3 Surfing magazines, I begin to wonder.
Don’t you think that soccer magazines would sell? FIFA 2009 for PS2 has already almost sold out. It seems they have new shipments of orange soccer balls, nearly once a week–as a matter of fact soccer and weight lifting are the only sports gear sold at the PX.
It is time AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Services) should look into getting some soccer magazines for the PX’s around the world. After all, I saw some Coalition Partners in the PX today–they play “football” don’t they?
They might want to read up on the World Sport.
