Over the last couple of weeks, I noticed that there needed to be more going on before the 1100 worship service than just soldiers walking in and sitting. There was an ackward silence. I believe that silence and quietness is good. However, there was a sense that people where just coming in to attend another briefing–this one from the Chaplain. That wasn’t worship. The soldiers didn’t know what to do and they need permission to go ahead and get quiet for worship.
Therefore, I began a new initioative to encourage personal worship using the Worship Network DVDs.
I love the Worship Network. I enjoy sitting and being quiet watching the pictures and the Bible Verses as they roll through the screen. The only downside is the comercials on the TV feed–I know they have to pay the bills, so I understand–it is better than not having it at all–but there was a time when it was completely ad free. But, the worship benefits are incredibly great–when watching it at home or on the computer. I don’t have streaming media here, so I bought several different DVDs for me to watch.
I used one of these yesterday during the thirty minutes prior to the service. This will be a weekly event and I will rotate through the 9 DVDs that I bought. The feedback I recieved from this was very postitve. I think that it added a prayerful begining to our service.
