At Christmas time, Monica brought home a poinsettia for our home. I was a beautiful red plant that added the Christmas touch to our living room. Christmastime came and left, and I moved the plant into the sunroom where we have our office and homeschool set up. The poinsettia is still a beautiful red. I have been careful to water regularly and positioned it in indirect sunlight.
I am beginning to see that it is greening a little bit as the days get longer and the sunlight fills its leaves. I’m proud to have nurtured it to make the color last as long as it did! I hope to nurture it through the year and possibly replant it in a larger pot. I also hope to have it revived by the time Christmas comes again.
An analogy to draw from it would be that through proper care and attention we can all maintain our color, our excitement, our energy, our influence even as the rest of the world has put away their decorations and quit. Life is a marathon and not a sprint. It takes daily watering, proper light, and care to keep going—slowly, deliberately, and with purpose.
