Last Wednesday, after a busy day, I was happy to see that the latest magazine from “The Letter Exchange” had arrived. I immediately sat down and began to review all of the opportunities for pen pal connections and enjoyable stories about letter writing.
The Letter Exchange is a publication from The Letter Guild to support the age-old art of letter writing. In every issue the magazine lists appeals for pen pals organized by the topic of the appeal.
Some of these appeals are light hearted, such as:
“Collects on Hello Kitty and Charlie Brown Peanuts Gang.” Or
“I’d love to travel, but funds are limited. Will you write me about your corner of the world? So I can visit by letter?”
And some are a little deeper, like:
“Seeking fellow questioners and seekers of truth” and
“Please tell me why you do(n’t) go to church.”
In each issue, there are hundreds of appeals by people looking for a new pen pal. I enjoy browsing through each one and then writing to those that catch my attention.
I am a member of three pen pal groups and this is the best of all of them. With each issue, I receive a fresh list of potential friends—all in an entertaining format. As a part of my goal to write 100 snail-mail letters this year, I look forward using this magazine as well as some of its past issues to find more and more people in which to write.
