Over the last couple of weeks, I have been writing about Spiritual Stuff for Soldiers. We’ve already talked about Church Bulletins and Spiritual Books. Today, I want to look at another big area that Soldiers would enjoy and that would be music.
Nearly every Soldier has an MP3 player of some sort or another. There is much time for sitting and listening it. Discover your Soldiers taste in spiritual music and send him some music.
Beware that the taste in spiritual music is not always the same as the taste for non-Christian music. For instance, for my devotionals I enjoy hymns and worship.net type songs or one of my favorites is the Our Daily Bread CDs… I play those when I specifically want to go into a devotional mode. The other times I either play classical or jazz or occasionally country or even pop. Different styles for different moods or functions–“A Mighty Fortress”” is terrible on the Treadmill.
I find that Soldiers desire for Christian music is that it will sound “Christian”. Some of the more contemporary Christian Music doesn’t sound this way–many do not make the leap to place the church in a worldly setting. That is just an observation. This is why you must understand the Soldiers taste and desires. They may and I would definitely recommend that they listen to some quiet devotional music to help calm them from the stress of life here.
So, as you are build a care package for your Soldier, consider a good Spiritual collection of songs to be sent.
