I was browsing some photos tonight and I ran across a photo of an escalator in a cave, it reminded me of the DC Metro. The subway system in Washington, DC became a way of life for me during the short time I was able to use it.
When I worked in DC, I took it everyday as I went to work, until COVID-19 happened, and this daily adventure came to an end. But, during the short time before COVID (about seven months), I was able to use the system to travel all over the nation’s capital and ride the escalator up into a new part of town or walk to a new area to explore. I remember riding the Metro with the kids to the Library of Congress. I remember riding it to the National Mall, and I remember riding it beyond the attractions to Dupont Circle.
I remember walking out of the station in the morning where there were drums playing and people selling umbrellas on rainy days. There was always energy all around Foggy Bottom Station. I also remember the slow quiet trip home, when all of the cars were packed with commuters on their way home.
It is a special memory to me as I remember that short time I went to work in DC.
