Â
Last week, I traveled to Talafar, Iraq for a visit. I always enjoy visiting; the conversations are enjoyable, the food is good, the fitness center is better than some in the states, and there is a movie theater.
I was waiting for chow on Friday, when I stumbled into the theater at 1745 and saw that the theater would be playing “The Punisher” at 1800. I knew I would have to wait for chow but I thought it was worth it.Â
I’m sure there are some serious movie critics out there that would tell me that it was terrible. However, the movie met my criteria. “Did I have a good time watching it?” And I did–it was a Marvel story, but OK.
My first thought, during those 15 minutes of waiting, was that Marvel does better marketing than DC. They have cool movies. They have comic books at Target. They have much to offer the entertainment world.Â
That doesn’t make them better, mind you, but it does show that the management has been more inovative in getting the story out. DC has had their share of trouble, particularly with the Superman franchise–but much of it seems to deal with management. I’m actually happy to see some of the writers and artists from Marvel move over to do some of DC stories. I think the new Batman and Superman (although I haven’t seen it) movies have gone in the right direction, but it would be nice to see some of the lesser known stories on the big screen as well.
