It is time again for the, at least for now, yearly AAFES free comic book.
For the last five years, Marvel Comics has been producing one comic book to be given away to soldiers through the America Supports Youprogram and AAFES–the Army Air Force Exchange Service. This year, I found my copy in Hohenfels, Germany–the day before I travelled home.
I always get about three or four copies–because they are free and always several left over. I keep one or two, and give my two daughters each a copy. This is the one day that they can hold a comic book and walk around the house with it. They see me reading my comic books on a daily basis–but know not to touch them. But, with this issue, they get a copy. The comic books are now ripped page by page throughout the house, but the girls had fun. They are even learning who each character is.
I guess, I could let them have some of my left over–“Free Comic Book Day” stuff, but I’m still holding on to them.
I again appreciate the support that Marvel Comics gives to soldiers–it is always a blessing to see these books arrive–it is the thought that somebody in the comic book world appreciates us that really makes a difference.
