On Sunday, January 9 was my 14th anniversary on Twitter. Each year, I get a little reminder telling me how long I’ve been using the social media tool which leads me to reflect on what has happened the last 14 years and how I’ve used Twitter and what I have seen through Twitter.
I remember when I joined and encouraged Monica to join. It was a way to pay attention to different activities and world events. I joined during my second deployment when I was active on social media—when it was all very new. I enjoyed the short comments on issues that interest me—they encouraged me and made me laugh. Then after these previous couple of years of heavy toxicity I have approached Twitter with more caution and specific selectivity. What was once a very open place for me, shrunk to a very small few.
I still enjoy following different topics like Call of Duty and gaming. I also enjoy following specific events and TV shows. I’ve been through much of Twitter’s ups and downs–and, I still believe that there is much to gain from it, so maybe I’ll still be there 14 years more.
If you feel like following me, I’m @chaplainandrews. I typically following gaming profiles and other interests of the day. Maybe one day I’ll get back to active Tweeting—but only when it is a safe place for me to do so.
