As the new year dawned, I was looking for a fresh approach to reading the Bible. I became frustrated with the many different Bible Reading Plans being published online. Reading the Bible is very important to me, but I get frustrated when all I can find are “Read the Bible in a Year” plans or the “Read Six Chapters of the Bible” plans. It is great to read the Bible in a year, I’ve done it—and I think it is a great way to get a handle on the entirety of the Bible. I also think that is great for the many people that can read six chapters a day. Again, this is a great way to get a grasp of the entire Bible. But, do they fuel effective devotional moments for the reader?
I began to search deeper into the web to find what I was looking for. I wanted something that was somewhat directed, not necessarily sequential. I wanted something that was not too long, but also long enough to have substance. I wanted to reflect on the passages that I was reading, not simply trying to check a box. I began to look for Bible societies that may want to simply encourage the reading of the Bible. This is when I discovered the 2016 Daily Bible Reading Guide from American Bible Society. This was found at The American Bible Society website and lists a daily reading. I have enjoyed having extra time to reflect and to journal since I began this new year of Bible Reading.
If you are interested in using this resource in your own daily Bible reading, I have linked to the .pdf version here.
