I love to listen to my scanner, but sometimes listening to my tabletop radio scanner isn’t possible. That is when I begin to look elsewhere. My Police Scanner App of choice is 5-0 Radio Police Scanner.
Typically, I don’t just sit and listen to the app. One could listen that way–but if I have time to sit, I can probably sit and listen on my radio scanner. Where 5-0 Radio comes in handy is when I want to listen to something or somewhere very specific.
When I hear of breaking news–shooting, tornado, fire, etc. I tune to the “Top 100 feeds”. Most of the time, events like these are already trending and going to the top of the list. I simply find it near the top and listen in. When I am in a new town, I will spend sometime listening in, as well as if I am just interested in a particular town.
5-0 Radio has a good selection of locations where there are broadcast feeds and has a good quality sound over most feeds. I’m always concerned with feedback or low volume, but I haven’t had trouble with either one since I’ve been listening. The fact that they are fairly consistent speaks volumes for the hundreds of volunteers that give of their time and energy to bring the police radio to us all.
