The perfect coffee temperature for me is hot. Not very hot–I’m a pansy and don’t like to burn my tongue or even threaten to. But I also don’t like for my coffee to get cold either. It is that in between temperature of hot that I feel is perfect.
How is this compared to real life?
I am all for taking a stand on issues–primarily for the sake of the gospel and other non-negotiables. It is important that we as Christians will be the ones to take a stand for having a Godly life and accepting Jesus Christ as the only way of Salvation.
However, we must pick our battles. To be fighting over every issue that is out there–and every time it arises is to be “too hot”. The world will feel burned every time they go near us! To never fight for something, makes us cold, using the language of the Bible, “luke warm”. And we will never make a difference or have any credibility at all.
The perfect balance is to be hot. We need to have certain issues that we will not bend on. We should have strong principles for which we pattern our lives and our convictions.
Picking our battles still means that we take our stands–but being hot–not too hot, not luke warm–means that we use wisdom in knowing where and when to stand.
