Several weeks ago, I went on a trip to Mechanicsville, VA to visit Antique Village. This Antique Mall is a rather large mall, as well as cluttered.
Inside the mall there are many different booths that range from pottery to civil war relics. The center of the mall included a large section of antique products—cans, toys, and even jewelry. This section was a nice collection of items that can be used as decorations or just keepsakes. There were several other booths throughout the mall with similar displays. Each of these displays held a wide array of smaller antiques.
Along the back wall there are booths with furniture—which I didn’t pay that much attention too, because I didn’t really see anything interesting. This doesn’t mean that they don’t have a good selection—I just was not in the market for furniture, so I nothing really jumped out at me.
My first impression was a little tainted by the fact that I was welcomed by a big dog lying in the floor—blocking my path to the main hallway upon entering the store. The conclusion of my trip was again frustrated by the same dog blocking my path to the pay counter. I’m not a fan on of large unfamiliar dirty dogs—particularly on their turf.
The most redeeming quality of the mall was the paper section. Named “Whiting’s Old Paper” , this section was loaded with old photos, news papers, magazines, and postcards. This little section is definitely worth the trip if you are interested in anything “paper”. I may go back just to see if I can get an old magazine or two.
All in all, Antique Village is an OK place to visit. If you are in the area–it would be worth stopping in—but not for a special trip.
