After a week of moving into our house, the fun is beginning to wear off. This is not a complaint, necessarily, but a statement of reality. The lack of furniture in our house begins to cause problems after a while.
Typically, when we have moved, we have had some idea of when the furniture will arrive soon after we check into the home. This time, we have no such luxury—even after a week of waiting. We hope it will be sometime near the end of this week or beginning of next week, but there’s no guarantee. We cope, however, by being creative. We sleep on air mattresses and have learned to bring camping chairs for at least something to sit on. We are lucky enough to live across the street from the library, so we have taken our share of trips to read in their nice furniture. The biggest thing that I have missed is simply a place to sit and relax. Even our new rockers are not the equivalent of a nicely padded couch.
To be fair, the Army offers some amount of compensation, if we chose to stay in a hotel but we choose to stay in our home. Even without furniture, we have space to walk around, we have internet to watch TV on, and we are able to get a little more accustomed to our new surroundings. And, if we were given the option again, we would have made the same choice to stay in the home-there are some advantages of it. But, the lack of furniture is really getting old.
