As soon as the email from Topps lets me know that the Series 1 set is available, I get the fever for baseball cards. This year, being in Korea, will make collecting a little more challenging than normal. But, being at home for the last two weeks has given me the chance to work with my collection.
Last year, given the preparation for the move and the requirements of school, I did not spend as much time on the cards as I would have liked. So, when I came home last week, I had some “chores” to complete. I sorted and sleeved my 2015 complete set and sleeved the 2016 Opening Day collection. I want to complete the Opening Day set the old fashion way, I plan to sort these cards in Korea and hunt for cards to fill the holes.
Opening Day is typically the most inexpensive set, so I use it as the one to buy off the shelves and build the set pack by pack. The other sets, the Topps Base Set, I buy annually in July with a notebook binder and sort and sleeve those. I did not have a chance to start sorting and storing the 2016 Base set while I was home, so I must wait until I return and keep the cards in the sealed box for safekeeping.
My collecting season has begun. I am looking forward to a good year of growing my collection and maybe even finish an Opening Day set.
