I’m from South Carolina.
So, as I was looking for The Arbor Day Foundation website I was quite confussed about when Arbor Day is. The National Arbor Day is 24 April 2009, but the South Carolina Arbor Day is the First Friday in December.
The confusion came as I was looking up Arbor Day to add to my contribution portfolio with the Combine Federal Campaign–the Federal Government Employee Giving Program. In the CFC, you can choose who you donate to and they will deduct it from your paycheck automatically.
I grew up knowing that Arbor Day was in the Fall. We would see notices in the mail box and advertisements on TV. Sometimes, we maybe would take part in a science lesson in honor of Arbor Day. So, to find that the national Arbor Day was in April was a little confusing.
I remember when I had a yard in South Carolina, I planted a tree in my backyard. I don’t know what ever happened to it. I wasn’t real smart on planting trees. However, I have gain a lot of respect for The Arbor Day foundation. We should be concerned about the environment and conservation.
Since 1872, Americans have been celebrating a National Arbor Day to celebrate the planting of trees.
In this new age of environmentalism, The Arbor Day Foundation has stuck to one message–plant trees. So many organizations get sidetracked on other related tasks that are out there. But, The Arbor Day Foundation has stuck to their focus–trees.
So, if you’re in South Carolina on Friday–care for the Earth…Plant a Tree!
[…] I mentioned before that I really like Arbor Day. […]
