As an introvert, it is easy for me to get steamrolled by the louder, flashier people that surround me. One of the lessons that I have learned over the years is to stand firm and trust my heart and always follow the Bible. It does not matter what phase the world is going through, God never changes and his word is always trustworthy.
I have been in many situations where something did not feel right. Something, even very minor, was contrary to the scriptures and I have backed out. Other times, I chose to follow the crowd and have reaped the empty benefits that this brings. Everyone around me seems to be getting on the bandwagon of the newest fad or instant blessing promised by the loudest spiritual leader in the room. I have seen them come and go. Sometimes, I have seen them fall.
The Bible says;
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart.” (Prov. 21:2, ESV)
It is easy to get caught up in “the latest and greatest” and I have been there myself. But, we must measure our lives against God’s standards, not what everyone else is doing. We live in a world today that everyone does what seems right in their own eyes (Judges 17:6). But, we must remember that God weighs the heart.
We must constantly ask the question: Are we seeking to please ourselves or others? Or are we seeking to please God?
The balance occurs when our hearts matches up with the Bible and “what is right in our eyes” matches what is right in God’s eyes.
