I spent my Labor Day morning running a local 10K and I’m now feeling the effects—dehydration and fatigue.
I walked out the door at 6 AM into an already hot and steamy morning. When I arrived, it was still dark outside and I began my warm-ups. I needed a water stop before it was even started.
When the race began, I went to the outside to let everybody settle down and found someone to pace me. I always like to follow somebody—and I stayed with him until the last couple of miles. I think I probably ran too fast too early—but I did have a fairly decent run time.
The biggest struggle came at mile two when there were two hills to climb, but after mile three there was only one long hill that did not affect me much.
The biggest challenge was the heat. I’m trying to learn to hydrate better but at 80 degrees and South Carolina humidity—there’s only so much you can do to prepare.
