I put this photo on this blog about a week ago, but I wanted to come back to it and focus on the drink on top of the coaster today—the Caffeine Free Diet Coke.
I have a friend who asked me one day; “So you are drinking a Caffeine Free Diet Coke. What’s the point? It contains no caffeine and no sugar!” Honestly, I go back to the old Diet Coke commercial, I drink it “just for the taste of it.” Yes, I do.
I remember the first year of the Army, I hated diet drinks. At the same time, however, I began drinking a lot of them due to working in an office all of the time and then, being separated from the family, I came home and watched TV or read comic books and drank more Cokes. I think I gained ten pounds on drinks alone that year.
Therefore, when I deployed, I decided to stop drinking regular soft drinks and forced myself to drink Diet Drinks. Slowly through the year, I got used to the idea of drinking Diet Coke—or in Iraq; it was “Coke Light.” This change alone helped me lose some of the weight I had gained.
Now, for the most part, I drink the Caffeine free kind so I do not add more caffeine into my system than the coffee or tea I drink in the morning. Sometimes, that caffeine alone gets excessive.
So, what’s the point? I drink it just for the taste of it. Nothing more. Nothing less.
