I received in my Instagram, on April 14, 2020, a message from the video game “Call of Duty” programing team, Infinity Ward. The message stated that they have issued over 70,000 bans on players who have cheated. Thankfully, the Infinity Ward team has placed some mitigating efforts to prevent some of these.
The question that I have is “why are we dealing with cheaters?”
Cheating and video games is not easy. It is not like hiding an extra five-hundred-dollar bill when playing monopoly. A cheater must physically go into the programing and change something to be able to pull it off. Why would anyone go to that much trouble for a game? It is amazing to me.
I spend a lot of time playing Call of Duty. Truthfully, I love to play and play a lot. I play to win every time, and I love to win. However, playing a cheated game is not fun. Why would I bother working so hard to win if I know the game is rigged?
As I spend more time with technology, it is constantly amazing to me that there are people that cheat for fun. There are those who hack into websites, simply for fun. Unfortunately, there are also governments that hack systems as well. It is an important reminder to protect your computers. Sadly, even in gaming, it is a reminder that not everyone wants to play by the rules.
