One of the wonderful things about Iraq is that it is Summer for 11 months out of the year–that one month of winter is January and now Winter is over and it is Summer again. It should be in the 60s tomorrow and there are bets out as to when the temperature will hit 100 degrees.
With it being Summer, that means Cook Outs. Tonight, being Sunday there were several–as people prepared to go to bed and sleep for the five hours before the Super Bowl–which starts at 0200. (I think–I’m sleeping through it this year.)
The cookouts are wonderful. PX hamburgers grilled over charcoal. Good friends, good conversation, and, for us, a heated Bocce Ball game.
These are not done as much once we get back. Yes, we will have the organized unit cook outs–but the cook outs that just gather people around–whoever happens to walk by…this is the true fun. It is an atmosphere of camaraderie that makes the Army great. It is the moments like these cookouts that make me glad I do what I do.
