I ordered The Sketchnote Handbook and I cannot wait to get started!
Several months ago, I listened to the Accidental Creative podcast on the way home from work. I was captured by the idea of drawing my ideas out in a way that is creative, fresh, and substantive. During the podcast, Todd Henry interviewed Mike Rohde about his book “The Sketchnote Handbook” and I immediately added it to my Amazon wish list. This week after writing many notes from reading and from class, I ordered the book and it arrived today. I actually ordered “The Sketchnote Handbook” and “The Sketchnote Workbook.” “The Sketchnote Workbook” explores some advance techniques of taking visual notes.
Visual notes are important because they provide a way to capture the ideas that are all around us and provide a visual reminder of what took place. Visual note taking focuses on big concepts not details in the weed. They also provide a reference point for you to go back to what you heard and reflect on the details that were not necessarily included in the notes that you wrote down. Many times when I write at the whiteboard during discussion and I enjoy being able to write out the idea while my group is brainstorming and working through details. Visual note taking is a way to put our discussions in a more visually appealing and memorable manner.
I look forward to working through the book and the exercises; with any luck, I will try to post them here for all to see. As I said above, I cannot wait to get started!
