In our house, we like to snack on Granola Bars. The controversy always arises regarding the question of buying Crunchy or Chewy. Monica, who buys the groceries, likes chewy and has convinced the kids that she is right in her choice. I, on the other hand, prefer crunchy—so much so that if presented with a chewy granola bar, I will typically choose nothing at all. So why the difference?
There is no difference in nutritional value—except that Crunchy comes in a pack of two, doubling the calorie count. However, even in the appearance, if does not seem like one chewy bar is as big as the crunchy bar. The chewy bars truly look smaller! Chewy bars are soft and sticky, while crunchy bars are hard and feel as if you are eating, well, granola. Crunchy bars feel better and more rugged to eat. Chewy bars do not feel natural to me. I am sure the manufacturers do everything they can to be healthy and organic about the production process, but chewy bars do not feel natural—crunchy bars feel natural. I get the feeling like if I leave a chewy granola bar out overnight, it will grow mold—if it has not already. Crunchy bars, I think I could leave it out for a week, come back to it, and be fine.
I know that the solution to the argument of crunchy or chew comes down to personal preference, but I really have an aversion to chewy. They are gross, in my opinion.
