I have a fairly new camera that fits in my pocket that take wonderful photographs and depending on the SD card will hold plenty of pictures. I bought it so that I can take a camera with me where ever I go, in the field, on a trip, or in everyday life. The problem is that I rarely ever use it.
I do not use it because I have the same quality in my iPhone. With the exception of having a SD card that I can easily move photos from the camera to the computer the mega pixels and even some of the technical data as closely the same. The advantage, however, is to the iPhone because of space. I only have to carry on device. Since the iPhone has a competitive camera as well as all of the features of a smart phone, there is no need to carry both. It just makes sense.
It is interesting to reflect on this fact, however, that only a decade ago portable phones were made available. Their camera had 3 to 5 megapixels. Gradually, the phones became more and more advanced until we cannot even fathom what the future may hold for personal devices. It is still amazing to me that we take photos, now, with our phones and think it completely normal. Growing up, however, that would be cool science fiction.
As the technology advances it will be amazing to see what they come up next for portable photography.
