As I drove to work this morning I was listening to “Too Small to Ignore” when I heard the quote:
“Failure is to succeed at something that doesn’t really matter.”
–Wess Stafford
I thought of running. One mistake I often make in the running of a race—particularly the long races –10 or 13.1 miles, is too start out to fast.
I pass people left and right. During my first half marathon I passed the 2 hour pacesetter…I was doing good! Until mile 11, when they easily passed me.
It didn’t matter that I passed them in the race—what mattered was that if I had held back, I could’ve been crossing the finish line a minute or two before two hours instead of just seconds.
In life, we get so busy doing things that make us look good. People cheer us on—they see us doing “great” things…but what about the end? Are we finishing well? Or have we spent our most productive time on things that really don’t matter.
