This afternoon the maintenance division of our housing company visited to give us a home inspection to see what condition our home was in, now that we have been living here for one month and have probably been able to identify the deficiencies and issues with our home. The two men with the maintenance section walked through every room in our house asking questions and giving helpful tips. They also went down in the basement to see the things that are typically hidden from view, as well as going outside where things are typically out for everyone to see.
I thought then that our spiritual homes need to be inspected once and awhile as well. We need to ask Christ to do an inspection of every room in our spiritual lives. We need to allow him to go into the places that aren’t typically seen by people and those things that are seen by people every day.
One of the most important parts of your spiritual life is the foundation. Jesus said; “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24 ESV) This wise man he talked about weathered storms and trial and in the end, continued to stand. How would your foundation look if you had an inspection right now?
The maintenance worker told us that our house was complete demolished in the year 2000. The Army took down this entire block down to the foundations, leaving the hardwood floors, and rebuilt these homes on top of those foundations. These foundations were strong enough to be passed along to newer homes. What kind of foundation do you have? Is it strong enough to be passed to a new generation or will just collapse when you die?
We need to have regular inspection of our spiritual homes or lives. These inspections need to be detailed and specific. Why don’t you make an appointment today to spend some time with Christ asking him to inspect!
